Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

The Beginning
We’ve been brought to New Faerun, come to seek our fortunes. Upon arrival we are sold to a hideous creature by the name of Thousand Eyes for 6 grand. He immediately has his servants paint red eyes on our foreheads. He then has them give us a tour of the guild hall after bringing us into Lower Faerun. It is explained to us that if we eat here it will be added to our debt, Arabela smirks at this and eyes the heavy frying pan in our companion’s hand.

Deciding not to dally anymore with formalities we head into the depths; they reek. Sewage pours from the walls and ceiling and a couple minutes in we are besieged by rats. We quickly dispose of them and Arabela starts putting that frying pan to use; before too long we have half a backpack full of fresh rat steak.
We come to a crossroads, they way to the left has shamblers, the right seems clear but up ahead we see people and decide to make way for them. They tell us they normally charge an entry fee for the “privilege” of entering the dungeon. Our caster Dues feels somethings up and halfway through them lets off a blast that nearly cuts their right flank in half. within thirty seconds we have them dispatched except one we kept alive to interrogate. Arabela tends to my wounds while Dues rolls in on the captive with questions. while this is going on, our mysterious knight of the frying makes a deal with a passing traveler in order to buy his tiger. She then proceeds to issue commands to it in order to test its reliability. So far it looks like she can make it kill and make it stop killing. I’m glad for the latter because that thing gives me a hungry eye every once and awhile, and I’ve been hurt enough today.
Anyway looks like there’s a building up ahead so I should put this Journal away and focus.

We're Alive!

We fought a group of Bosses just a while ago. The had symbols burnt onto their chests that glowed when we killed them and matched up with symbols on this massive door. There was a giant Ettin and two massive Spiders. We took down the Ettin just before it could get to us but the 2 spiders nearly caught us by surprise when they jumped down from some nearby stalagmites. Dues blasted away at their eyes and i used my telekinetic Flail to bash in their guts. Meanwhile the knight of the frying pan and Arabela kept us from being flanked and made sure we didn’t fall to the deadly poison. After we butchered the spiders for their carapace, we checked on the Ettin for loot but it turns out he wasn’t dead, he had just collapsed. He grabbed Dues by his leg and slammed him against the floor nearly crippling him. I have never seen Dues so mad, he let off a wave of energy that evaporated the flesh right of the Ettin’s arm who then died from shock. Turns out the stinking Ettin didn’t even have anything on him, but the last symbol on that door lit up. Arabela is healing Dues and then we’ll head through the door, hopefully whatever is through there will have been worth the effort. Otherwise Dues and Arabela might just explode with fury.

A Debt Repaid

It hurt to leave that much wealth behind. There were 6 sarcophagi on the second floor, and we only opened one. Our take home was over $2000 in coins alone. Not to mention Dues got this sword that turned out to be magic but not before he nearly decapitated himself with a cursed amulet, luckily he overpowered it and managed to yank it off. After that we decided that all the money in the other sarcophagi was worthless if we didn’t get any of it out of the dungeon so we started the haul back up to the surface. As we went to leave though we were ambushed by another group of adventurers, they opened another sarcophagus before they noticed us and their caster almost knocked Dues out. one of them escaped but we killed the rest and found this shadow thing that they released from the sarcophagus; it says it wishes to be our friend, for a price of course. It feeds on the dead we leave in our wake and its hunger seems insatiable, it made a pact with Dues claiming that it will eat him if he doesn’t feed it well enough. In exchange Dues has gained access to a well of strength from the creature, not that he needed it, the man can blow shit up with his mind but who am I to judge. Any way, over the next few days we went back down into the entry to the second floor a few more times; defeating guardian bosses each time. Apparently the floors reset each night which is why there seems to be no end to the wealth extorted from the dungeon, as well as explain how adventurers of so many strength levels are all able to make a living, instead of the strong starving out the weak.
After those trips down below it seems we were able to pay off thousand eyes and start our own guild, and it hasn’t even been a whole week. Things are looking up, I’ve decided to form a bond with the shadow seeing as it hasn’t eaten Dues, but I’ve only agreed to expose it to my ecstasy ray; it would seem the creature embodies the sins of greed, lust, envy, and the like which suits me. It claims to serve a local goddess whose domain includes those attributes, it may be in our best interest to pay her tribute in the near future. In the mean time though we collected a few new magic items. I obtained a defense ring which creates a near impenetrable barrier but prevents me from attacking, Arabela received an elemental bow that draws upon her stamina to fuel its power, and Saucy got a mace that calls enemies to attack her but packs a hell of a wallop.
All in all I think we are doing well for ourselves; I hope only to rise from here and live to spend our growing wealth spawned from our good fortunes and hard work.
